In the part one of this series, we talked about the different kinds of Indian wear which can pep up the style quotient of the to-be-Mommy

And for those like me who are more comfortable in the ubiquitous dresses, skirts, denims aka Western Wear for occasions.

1. Explore the world of prints.

How many times has it happened that you walked into a party, or at a restaurant or taking a perfected selfie at a vacation spot, only to turn around and find someone wearing the exact same piece or similar to what you own in your wardrobe. Now imagine what the chances would be for maternity wear, where your options are drastically reduced or at least that’s the common belief.

Just because you are preggers, don’t be resistant to tread the unbeaten path. There are multitude of prints out there other than the stripes, checks, polka dots and floral.

I have listed a few of the trendy but classic prints that can not only flatter your bump but lift the dressy look up few notches.

1a. Chevron

I was in love with this print -pre, while n post pregnancy and it still continues to be going very strong as one of my favourites. It’s a very versatile print and looks good as a complete print, or colour blocks or even just a partial print.

Now depending on your body shape, stage of your pregnancy and your body changes you can wear this print in the right proportion. Actually this rule of proportion goes for any prints in general.

Below I have tried to show you how a small, medium and large chevron looks to illustrate the difference.

Tip -Try and avoid very big and bold prints to balance out the growing body.

So unless you are one of those fortunate ones, who barely put on weight during the whole pregnancy, use the bigger prints during the first trimester and as the months proceed, move onto the smaller prints.

1b. Aztec prints

This is a print that entered the fashion scene recently and is going very strong.

This print looks exclusively great on leggings and helps break the monotony of wearing solid bottoms.

Style tip: Pair these with a bright coloured tunic (my personal favorite colour mustard yellow and marsala red), throw in some accessories, a chic hobo bag, kitten heels and you are the style diva at that party!

This print particularly looks good on knit wear too. So for all winter to-be mommies this can be a very good option. Wear a waterfall shrug or cardigan over your attire and give that bump the extra dash of chicness.

Now the cherry on the cake is that all these options are not restricted to just being maternity wear. Yes, you can wear them through your postpartum, and beyond it too. They all are versatile pieces which can be styled in various ways to get different looks. So at a time when you are thinking twice about spending that money and tossing between your dress or your soon-to-arrive baby’s needs, these are sound and risk free investments. (Yes, I am still reeling under the new budget hangover).

1c. Houndstooth & Herringbone

Now both these prints are classic and though they look very similar at first glance, you can never go wrong with these prints.

2. Accentuate and flaunt

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to be dressed frumpily in 2-3 sizes larger and fully covered. Highlight those areas of your body which haven’t changed much. For each one its different parts and also different timings.

If you want to play safe, wear flowy soft fabrics like satins, chiffon, mix of poly chiffon and georgette.

The wrap around / tie-up style of dress works best on all. Use that growing cleavage and wear flattering necklines like long v and scoop necklines.
