Summer Vacation is a couple of weeks away and it’s ok to not have planned any trips yet. Let them explore their own city this year. In Mumbai, there are many places to go with your child this summer. Here is a list of ten places in Mumbai you can visit with your kids without worrying about the scorching heat.

Kidzania: Most of our kids do role plays at home. Don’t they? Sometimes they pretend to be a pilot, or, a doctor, fireman, police etc. Why not take them to a place where they can role play in a convincing ambience. Kidzania in R-City Mall, Ghatkopar is specially built for kids aged between 4-14 years where kids can enact various roles like fire-fighter, journalist, banker, doctor and sixty such similar roles. Built like a city, it is complete with paved roads, battery operated cars and buildings. Kidzania has a functioning economy and own currency. KidZania is one of the most innovative outdoor themed places I may have taken my child to. Your child would be able to spend 4-5 hours without getting bored.

Given the busy season, I would recommend a prior reservation.

Timings: Weekdays 11am-8pm, Weekends have two slots- 10am-3pm and 4pm-9pm. Monday Closed.

Snow World: Kids just love being around snow and if you are not taking your kids to Kashmir or Himachal then take them to Snow World in Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla (W). It’s a one-of-its-kind snow park in the city. With a lot of initial operational issues after its launch, the snow world seems to finally have got the house in order. Located within a mall, it makes it easier for us to shop around while our kids enjoy exploring the snow world. Here kids can enjoy activities like snowboarding, snow sledging, ice skating and ice sliding. Kids can also enjoy the unique experience of actual snow fall. In the snow play area, kids can play with natural snow and build snowman and throw snowballs at each other. Timings- 11am -10pm.

Taraporewala aquarium: The newly renovated Taraporewala Aquarium could be a nice place to visit with kids. The Aquarium is entertaining as well as educative. Kids can watch various aqua species here. Even though this place is not as well maintained as you may expect yet worth a visit. Timings: 10 am-1 pm and 2 pm-5 pm. Closed on Monday.

Nehru Planetarium: Like other cities, Mumbai also has its own Nehru Planetarium. If your child is an aspiring astronaut, this is the right place to go to. Here the programmes are aimed at inspiring students, better suited for older children though. These include Science quiz contests, Astro-painting, Science elocution, Astro-poetry and Astro-quiz competitions. The space show timings are 12 noon (Hindi), 1.30 pm (Marathi), 3 pm (English) and 4.30 pm (Hindi). It is advised to book tickets a day in advance. Planetarium is closed on Monday and public holidays. Price of tickets Rs 60/ for adults and Rs 40/ for children.

Smaaash: This is one place you shouldn’t miss during this vacation. This place has a host of attractions like 9D theatre, sky-karting, twilight bowling, Trampoline Park, snow rush, air hockey, roller coaster simulation and a great cricket arena that surely your kids are going to enjoy. Located in Kamala Mills Compound, Lower Parel this place is open from 11am-12.30 pm every day.

Funky Monkeys: This indoor play area in Andheri is a hot favourite. Come rain or sunshine, your kids can burn some energy here in a safe and clean environment. Its free play area is designed for kids from 6 months to 10 years. This place has two play zones which includes different kinds of soft play equipment. Thankfully, they also have play supervisors to monitor the play area and ensure an injury free play time. While your kids play, you can go and enjoy your latte.

Orama 4D theatre: This is one place both you and your kid will enjoy. The unique experience of 4D movies where you can also feel whatever is going on screen like water splash, and cold touch of a snake. Orama is open from 11 am to 6.30 pm.

Infinity Mall Game Zone: My favourite hangout place with my son is Planet infinity inside Infinity Mall 2, Malad. It is near my house and I can spend 3-4 hours here easily without any worries. The place has a play maze where I drop my son and go shopping for half an hour. They have numerous attractive games like astro express, galaxy winder, gizmo pop, sonic drop, bumper wars, infiniti carousel and cosmic waves.

Zig Zag Zoo: Moms from New Mumbai don’t feel dejected! Zig Zag Zoo in Satara Plaza, Vashi, is the place to be. The best thing I like about this indoor soft play area is that parents can also join and play without paying extra. In case you want to relax and let the child play on its own then supervisors are there to monitor. A great way to spend quality time with your child on a hot and dull summer afternoon! You will definitely want to go back again.

Riot Room: If you want your child to enjoy uninterrupted free play for sometime in an indoor soft play area, then Riot room in Manpada,Thane is ideal. This place is very safe as supervisors are always there to monitor the kids. Just like other indoor soft play areas, make sure that your child wears socks as entry will be prohibited otherwise.
