The debate whether kids should be allowed screen time or not and if yes, how much, is a never ending one. While most parents don’t want their kids to be too exposed to television and its content meant for grown-ups, few others want to expose them to animated or non-animated shows / movies that can help kids learn some values early in life. A lot of animated movies meant for kids are full of violence and content not meant for kids, thus parents need to be very mindful about what they choose to show their little ones.

Here is a list of few movies that the whole family can enjoy together and has a great message to pass on to the kids. Kids might not get the message instantly, but it can be a good way to initiate a family discussion based on the movie.

1. Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory

Based on Roald Dahl’s book – Charlie and the Chocolate factory, this movie is funny and a little odd (and thus more funny). In the movie, all the selfish kids end up in some or the other misfortune, while only the selfless kid who follows all the rules and cares about his family ends up with the prize at the end.

2. Horton Hears a Who

Based on Dr. Seuss’s famous book with the same title, it’s a great movie to watch for kids as well as grown-ups. The story of a whole world living on a spec has a great message for kids – A person is a person no matter how small. Great way to teach equality among all.

3. Happy Feet

Seeing all happy penguins sing and dance is a treat to eyes. In Mumble’s world, where everyone should sing beautifully to be able to get a suitable life partner, he has a great message for us – Everyone has something unique to offer and it is fine to stand out from the rest of the pack.

4. The Lorax

This movie too is based on a book by Dr. Seuss. With a message about the environment and its conservation, this movie leaves an impactful message for both kids and adults.

5. Wall-E

This movie is so cute that we almost miss the message initially. Just like the Lorax, Wall-E has an environmental message that if we don’t care about our planet, we will end up like people who had to leave their beloved planet Earth.

6. The Incredibles

It’s funny to see people with superpowers trying to live a normal life, isn’t it? It makes kids think of their parents in a different light altogether. No matter how old and boring your parents might seem, they are really quiet incredible in their own way!!

These are just a few handful movies, while there are a lot more out there which are fun to watch leave profound a message in the end. Some other such movies are – Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Shrek, Toy Story, Babe, The Princess and the Frog, Up, and How to train your dragon.

Do watch them then and share your review here so that our Mommy friends know about it too!
