Vansh literally gives me a chance to relive my childhood. Pre-monsoon he gets super excited to buy a raincoat for himself  and once the rains start, he loves to go out and wet himself and we are at that stage of life, where I am his best friend so, we do a lot of things together. But now that schools are on, we can get wet together only during the weekends. So during the busy weekdays, we choose the next best alternative, we read books on Monsoon. So here are some of our best picks for this monsoon. 


Rain Drops – by Vaishali Shroff 

The highlights of this book are its beautiful water-colour illustrations that depict a little girl watching rains and how it affects life through a glass window. It is a book suitable for kids aged 4 and above.

Let’s catch the rain- By Vinod Lal and Heera Eshwer 

The book conveys very beautifully the need to conserve water through water harvesting. Thus, it is a wonderful book that every child should read since we are all suffering from a water crisis. Good for children aged 3 and above, it will definitely help your toddler become more environmentally conscious

Boondi’s Story: Water – Part of the First look At Science Book series

This wonderful picture book talks about a little drop of water, Boondi, and maps out its transformation through various stages, from gas to liquid to gas in an easy-going interactive manner, making it fun for kids to read. An excellent book for kids aged 4 and above to learn about the water cycle.

This is one story that needs no introduction; it’s so beautiful and heart-warming that it was even adopted by acclaimed director Vishal Bharadwaj into a successful Hindi movie. Although I was in two minds about categorising it as a monsoon book, I decided otherwise as the different human emotions it takes your little reader through, are too good to be ignored.

Set in a remote village located at the Himachal foothills, the story talks about a little girl and her prized possession, a blue Japanese umbrella which becomes the object of desire for the other villagers, especially a shopkeeper and how he gets it in the end. It is a deeply moving story that teaches us all including kids, the value of sharing and giving up for others. So, read it together with your kids and get inspired. It is suitable for kids aged 6 above.
