Renowned Gynecologist Dr Rakesh Sinha Passes Away
The last week of 2016 started off on a sad note for the medical fraternity as the news of Dr Rakesh Sinha’s untimely demise came in.
Renowned endoscopic surgeon and gynecologist; Dr Sinha was reported to have collapsed on a street in Bandra at around 9.30 am on Monday morning while practicing for an upcoming marathon. He was rushed to the nearby Holy Family Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
First to bring the minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques to India, Dr. Sinha held two Guinness World records – one, for having removed the largest fibroid weighing 3.4 kg laparoscopically and second for having taken out the heaviest uterus weighing 4.1 kg laparoscopically. Apart from being a world renowned gynecologist, Dr Sinha is known to have trained as many as 600 endoscopic surgeons and is fondly remembered by them for being a positive influence.
Sonali Shivlani, an eminent Pre-natal, Lactation and Child Nutrition expert and a trusted panelist at BabyChakra recalls the first day she met Dr Rakesh Sinha 13 years ago. “He was the first person who believed in me and gave me my first prenatal class just twenty days after my certificate arrived. The first lesson I learnt from him was that 'It’s ok to say I don't know'. I still follow that advice and teach it to so many of my students. He touched so many lives, and has been one of the biggest influences in mine.”
We at BabyChakra are also deeply saddened by the news and send our condolences to the Sinha family.
