Morning sickness, nausea, fatigue, food cravings and gradual weight gain are kicking in strongly now that you are halfway through your first trimester.

If your gynecologist conducts an examination now, your vagina will appear slightly blue rather than the usual pink. Do not be alarmed – this is due to increased blood flow in the area.

Bleeding or spotting (specks of blood on your underpants or toilet tissue) is fairly common in early pregnancy, affecting almost one in four pregnant women. It may occur in a normal pregnancy, but sometimes it is the first sign of miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. If you experience any spotting or bleeding, it is best to call your healthcare provider.
