We understand that for you getting a baby to sleep through  the night seems like a near-impossible task! Don’t worry, your baby will eventually learn to  fall asleep on their own, she might just need a bit of help.

It might be helpful for her if you do the following-

How to prepare for sleep training:

  • Start sleep training only when your baby is 4 to 6 months old.
  • Set a bedtime routine. Begin with a warm bath and a book or lullaby before bed.
  • Schedule a pattern for the day. Bedtime should be fixed, ideally between 7 to 8 pm.
  • Set fixed times for feeding and day naps so that the baby is more relaxed to be sleep trained.

You can choose between a couple of methods:

Try the below methods to observe your baby’s reaction. If he/she resists, discontinue and repeat after a few weeks.

1. Cry it out

In this method, put the baby to bed whilst awake with periods of crying and comforting without holding the baby. Slowly distance yourself from the baby once placed in the crib, but do not leave it to cry for indefinite periods.

2. No cry approach

This is the exact opposite. In this approach, you must soothe the baby right away if it begins to cry. Offering comfort immediately makes the baby feel more secure and relaxed, and helps her sleep sooner.

3. Fading out

Here, you should decrease your sleep-wake role by slowly moving your chair away from the crib each night until the baby falls asleep by itself. An alternative to the fading out approach is to check on the baby every five minutes and comfort it without picking it up.

The goal in enforcing a sleep training pattern is to help the baby soothe itself. The more practice the baby gets, the quicker is the process. Remember to begin early. The baby will learn to sleep on its own, and you will finally get the sleep you need too!
