Meal Plans: #Week 2 (7-12 months)

Welcome to Week 2 of Kiddy Kitchen! Here’s an exciting line-up of recipes for your 7-12 month olds put together by Healthy Eating Habits Expert Deepti Arora.

Deepti has some advice for you to consider:

Between 7 and 9 months is a rapid development period for your baby. At seven months, your baby may still have no teeth but you will probably notice the baby drooling more than usual and chewing on almost everything. Once your baby is a little older (about eight months), you can start introducing more solids in meals.

Always remember to introduce one new food/food group at a time and let the child get accustomed to the taste, check for allergies and then move to the next.

In addition, you can offer other dairy products, water, diluted fruit juices or herbal teas with meals if the baby seems thirsty.

Vegetable Combo

  • 1/8th cup fresh beans
  • 1/8th cup peas
  • ¼th cup zucchini squash
  • 1/8th cup chopped carrots

Add all the ingredients to a pan and add enough water

Cook until tender and puree the contents in a blender

Add water to get the desired consistency

Apple and Raisin Compote

  • Heat 3 tbsps of fresh orange juice in a saucepan
  • Add 2 apples peeled, cored and sliced and 15 gms of raisins
  • Cook gently for 5 mins until soft. Puree the mixture and add the flesh of raisins

Avocado

  • Cut a well ripened avacado in half and scoop out the stone
  • Use ½ and mash the flesh with fork, adding a little milk if required
  • Serve quickly to avoid turning brown

*Do not freeze avocados.

Steam the red pepper and sweetcorn

Drain excess water and puree together with cauliflower, milk and cheese in a mouli*

*Mouli is a specialised food masher used to puree food for babies

Fillet of Fish in Orange Juice/ Tofu (Silken)

  • 225 gms skinless fillet
  • Juice of one orange
  • 40 gms grated cheese
  • Finely chopped parsley
  • 25 gms crushed cornflakes

Put the fish in a greased dish, cover with orange juice, cheese, parsley and corn flakes and butter.

Cover with foil and bake in an oven at 180 C for 15 minutes

Flake the fish carefully and mash everything together with the liquid in which the fish was cooked

Happy Experimenting!
