Revel in the use of their imagination and get involved. The importance of imagination in kids is unmatched.

Kids are constantly learning. From the time they are born, they are exploring the new world around them. As parents, we feel we have to continuously be teaching them so that they can hit their developmental milestones and acquire as much knowledge as possible.

One thing we can also help our kids develop is their imagination. A strong imagination allows for creativity and self-expression. I remember, when I was growing up, my closest friend’s mom gave us each a spiral notebook to play with. So both he and I would make up different games with that notebook. Sometimes, we would draw a map and follow it. We would play store and school. We would pretend to be different characters. We would record our scores from different games we played. It really gave us the chance to have adventures and be people we wanted to be. It also taught us how to use every day skills.

Playing make believe with your child is a great way to have fun and share bonding time with them. It also teaches your child how to dream. So many times we pretend we are astronauts or movie stars. If we learn how to dream about it when we are young, it will definitely reinforce the belief that we can achieve it.

Encourage your child to play and make believe.  They can choose from so many inspirational real historical figures or even some of the characters they see on tv like Elmo from Sesame Street. Revel in the use of their imagination and get involved.

It might be one of the most important things you teach your child how to do.
