Swami Vivekananda once said “It is impossible to think about the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is impossible for a bird to fly on only one wing.”

India is very fortunate to have flooded with great women who eventually had done remarkable work for the society when it needed them the most.

From Rani Padmavati to the world’s most beautiful woman Manushi Chillar, we have witnessed their greatness from time and again. They have fought with rituals, discrimination, inequality, sexism, body shaming and what not. For indian women, the womanhood has changed over the time. Voice against discrimination is louder than before. The focus has shifted from abolition of patriarchal customs to the equal wages at work place.

They are marching shoulder to shoulder, side by side with men. They are extensively contributing to the welfare and the transformation of the society.

You will be sweetly surprised at the results of all the competitive exams, how women have taken over the merit list. Not just the list, but the top positions as well!!

Women are no longer considered unfit for protecting the country. India doesn’t lack in women power.

To quote former Miss Universe Sushmita  Sen, “Women in India have now become more aware of their rights as individuals and they are now opting for higher positions at work, at the same time being a perfect housewife at home”. This is the place that we have reached today as an Indian women.

They have struggled hard to reach and establish the identity on their own. Only a women can handle any difficulty with much patience and perseverance.

But the patriarchy is still lodged so deep inside both our mind and law, we still have long way to go. In India we still have families who can’t treat both son and daughter equally. They are not given same food, same education, same freedom.

They are still raised to become someone’s wife. They still face the domestic violence, they still have to prove themselves. They are still being seen as financial liabilities. Outside home also there is rise in crime against them.

They are still being asked questions like why you should work? All they are expected to do is the invisible work which is also unpaid and unrecognized.

India is still one of those countries where women’s population is less than male population. Though the feminist voices are louder than before, woman in India is still being denied the freedom she deserves. There are several cases of dowry, murder, rape, burning, beating, inequality, discrimination.

Woman in India still lies between ties and one end and laughter at the other. Of course there are louder initiatives to empower women but still we have miles to go!!!
