What will you do if your baby gets fever in the middle of the night? I would give her the medicine that my paediatrician has prescribed for such situations and if the situation seems out of hand in a few hours, I’ll go to doctor. Simple enough? Not in every situation. What if your little one has suddenly started refusing milk or what if she doesn’t  let go of the screen-time? There are multiple big and small dilemmas that keep presenting themselves to moms; first time mothers are more vulnerable.

Most of us prefer to go ‘Our Village’ to get solutions. As in we ask other people what we should do. Different people have different experiences so we get contradictory answers and many times end up getting more confused. The Internet adds more fuel to the fire.

My solution is simple- listen to everyone but do what you feel is right. I ask other moms when I am stuck with mommy-problems and get plenty of mommy-advice. I then weigh the pros and cons and go with the solution that fits my values and lifestyle. Take screen-time for example, I have read multiple times that kids shouldn’t get it before the age of two. Many mommies around me give completely unsupervised screen-time to babies as young as one year old. What I do is that I give my girl some TV time during the most chaotic hours of the day. Mobile phones are off limits. With TV, I get more control over content and I can turn it off any time. The screen is also far from baby’s eyes so it’s less stressful for eyes too.

It’s a win-win for me but for some parents it might not be. Here’s a  mommy-advice- Do what fits your style of parenting. It’s good to ask others but at the end of the day, you are the judge and you have to live with the outcomes.

Do you follow every mommy-advice that comes your way?
