The unforgiving summer heat can lead to a host of problems such as dehydration, fatigue, prickly heat, and diarrhea. But did you know that harsh summers can be bad for our eyes as well?

Intense heat can cause burning, conjunctivitis, dry eyes and even dark circles. Staring at your laptop or mobile screen doesn’t reduce these problems either. What’s more, our eyes are prone to allergies in this season as well.

Many allergies can be prevented by just eating right. Here are some foods for healthy eyes.

Eggs

‘Sunday ho ya Monday, Roz Khao Ande’ holds true for eye health. Eggs have vit A, lutein, zeaxanthin and zinc. These protect the cornea, prevent cataract, keep the retina healthy and help in night vision.

Citrus

Fruits like oranges and lemons are rich in vitamin C and bioflavonoids that prevent the eye lens from becoming cloudy and oxidising. They also help in healing any eye damage.

Dairy

Milk, yogurt and paneer are also rich sources of vitamin A and zinc. These foods like egg, prevent the early onset of cataract and help in fighting eye disease.

Oily fish

A rich source of Omega 3 acids, oily fish such as mackerel, salmon and tuna help maintain the moistness of the eyes thereby reducing chances of infection.
