On my daughter’s 3rd birthday, out of the many gifts she received, one was a special “storybook pillow:” Every night, I secretly tuck in a book in a pocket at the back of the pillow for my kid. She loves being surprised and gets really excited to see which one it is. It certainly has encouraged her reading habit and I can’t thank my friend enough for such a great gift!

Here are my choice of top 5 books to read to your child, in no particular order:

1. Have You Filled A Bucket Today? A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids by Carol McCloud

When was the last time you read a child’s book that appealed to you as an adult as well? This book is the recipient of the prestigious Mom’s Choice Award. It encourages children to see how easy and rewarding it is to express kindness and love on a daily basis.

2. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney.

Beautifully illustrated by Anita Jeram, this book depicts boundless love of a parent for his child. It makes for a perfect bedtime story.

3. Stories For One Year Olds by Igloo Books Ltd.

This is a wonderful collection of original tales told in a rhythmic way, full of cute characters that children love. Come join the fun and make story time extra special for your little one.

More books in this series include Stories for 2 (3/4/5/6) Year Olds.

This book is especially close to my heart because it was the first book gifted to my baby and the first book I picked up to read to her.

4. The Golgappu “Farm to Table” and “How to make” series of children’s educational and informative storybooks by Tarla Dalal

These books are a fun way to teach children about food, how it grows, and how some of their favorite dishes are made. Each book also has recipes that go with the theme of the book so mommies and children can make fun food together. Let’s get cooking!

5. Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm.

I believe this book is every owner’s pride! Growing up, I never owned one but it is definitely a must-have for my daughter. The Children’s & Household tales is a collection of fairy tales originally written in German, lyrically translated in English. It is a must read!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.

The more you learn, the more places you’ll go!” – Dr. Seuss
