With its campuses in Thane, Colaba, Andheri, Matunga, Nerul, Vashi and Kandivali, Serra International wants to create responsible global citizens and brilliant leaders of tomorrow,it lays a superior foundation by providing quality education through early childhood. Serra encourages students to be lifelong learners.

This is our conversation with the school director, Tasneem Mesiwala.

1. Tell us more about yourself

I am Ms Tasneem Mesiwala, the director of Serra Interational. I did my MBA in marketing from Jamanlal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. I have corporate experience in Customer Service for 30 years. I was also a trainer for MBA students and corporates in soft skills.

2. What teaching method does your  school choose?

We follow the Reggio Emilia approach which was developed by Loris Malaguzzi who was a teacher himself and the parents around the village of Reggio Emilia in Italy after World War II. The underlying principles of this method of teaching are:-

(a) The environment is the child’s third teacher (first being the parents and second being the Preschool teacher.)

(b) Make the best out of waste.

(c) Parental involvement.

(d) Documentation of the child’s work around d the classroom.

3. What values does the school inculcate in the students? What are the principles of the school?

Explore, Enhance and Enrich are Serra’s core principles. These principles are inculcated and followed by the Serra family which includes students, parents, teachers, helpers and Directors.

4.  A day in the life of a student from your school:

We focus on six areas of learning which are- personal social and emotional development, language literacy and communication, numeracy and logical reasoning, physical development and creative development. A typical day will touch upon each of these areas through free play, circle time, rhyme sessions, story sessions, snack time, video watch, outdoor play, art and craft.

5. Where do most of your students go after gradutating?

Our children have got admission in J.B.Petit, B.D.Somani, G.D.Somani, St.Mary’s, JBCN, Orchid International, Fazlani l’Academie Global,Cathedral and affluent schools of South Mumbai.

6. What is the best part about being a preschool director?

To be with children the air is filled with innocence, laughter and a positive energy. It gives me an opportunity to contribute for the betterment of our society through education. Employing women in my organization gives me deep satisfaction and pride being a woman myself.

7. Why should people choose Serra International?

We are truly an International School with students from all over the world. The Reggio Emelia Approach and our curriculum which is given to us by the Academic team at the Edvance group Singapore sets us apart from the other schools. Last but not the least, having an outdoor play area in a prime location of South Mumbai is a rarity for a Pre School.
