While pregnancy is an important chapter in a woman’s life, a research conducted in India showed that our changing lifestyle has given rise to infertility amongst women. Due to this, several women are unable to enjoy this wonderful phase of life. While infertility is treatable, it may not work for everyone.
Fortunately, we live in a world where people are kind enough to share their gift of fertility with other women in the form of egg donation. Egg donation is a noble concept. But it can be daunting if you are new to it.

So, here are a few things you should consider before going ahead with it.

Your Schedule

Although you should be proud of taking such a responsibility upon yourself, you must know that the egg donation process is time-consuming. You are required to go through a series of psychological and physical tests that determine whether or not you are fit to donate your eggs. Besides, you will be undergoing various counselling sessions as well. So,  plan accordingly.

Family History

Be prepared to answer numerous questions if you are planning to donate your eggs. You will need to share  your family’s complete medical history to ensure that there are no risks of genetically inherited disorders or diseases. Also, if you are suffering from any sexually transmitted diseases or infections, you may not be allowed to go ahead with egg donation as you are required to be healthy.

Doctor’s Approval

Consulting with your doctor who is familiar with your medical history is a wise thing to do before making an egg donation. Your doctor will be able to tell you whether or not your body is fit for making the contribution.

Lifestyle Modifications

One of the biggest changes that you would have to make is in your lifestyle. Egg donation requires you to take hormone stimulant injections daily that help increase the fertility of your eggs. Therefore, you are required to abstain from sex as these injections increase your chances of conceiving, which is not ideal when you are making an egg donation. Furthermore, abstaining from sex allows you to avoid coming into contact with any sexually transmitted diseases or infections.

Consult with Other Donors

It is always advisable that you connect with other people who have experience in egg donation. They will be able to guide you through the entire process and make it less confusing for you.

Where to Donate?

Now that you know the basics, the biggest question concerning egg donation is whom to approach for taking this further. Typically, there are three ways of donating your eggs.

  • Direct Contact – You can directly donate your eggs to someone you think requires your donation.
  • An Agency – Agencies are extremely popular among egg donors. They pay very well, so, if you are doing this for financial reasons, you can consider approaching donor agencies.
  • A Clinic – Going to a clinic directly and enquiring if they are looking for egg donors is another popular way of making an egg donation.

Make a Difference!

It is your responsibility to ensure that you only pass on your healthy eggs to ensure that the baby is born healthy. Whether you remain anonymous or identified, your contribution is going to give some couple the joy of having a baby, and they will forever be grateful to you. Therefore, ensure that you are safe and diligent in your efforts while taking care of yourself to guarantee the birth of a healthy baby.
