The monsoons are finally here and you might just find your little one jumping around in puddles. However, all’s not fun and games because the chances of your child getting common cold, cough and water-borne diseases are the highest during the rainy season.

Here are a few simple tips to protect your child during the rainy season.

1. Drinking boiled water

It is very important that your kid drinks clean water. Give your child only boiled water or filtered and purified water. Boiling kills all the disease-causing pathogens and prevents your child from getting any water-borne diseases, such as cholera and typhoid.

2. Washing hands regularly

In general, it is a very good practice to wash hands regularly. Especially during the rainy season, every little thing becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. Encourage your child to wash his/her hands after touching anything dirty and also before and after having food.

3. Boost your child’s immunity

If your child has good immunity, then he/she won’t fall sick often. Make sure to include loads of vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables to your child’s diet. Having immunity boosting foods like chyawanprash everyday can protect your child against common cold, fever and cough.

4. Home-cooked food

Avoid street foods at all costs. Food cooked with your own hands is hygienic and you know all the ingredients that go into it, unlike street food. On occasions that you have to eat outside, select a restaurant that you know is hygienic and make sure your child eats food that is hot and drinks only filtered, bottled water.

5. Carry rain gear

Even if it isn’t raining, always have an umbrella or a raincoat in handy for your kid when you step out of your house during monsoons. Ditch the plain old boring umbrellas and rain coats and switch them for more fun and colorful ones to get your child excited.

Make sure to take these precautions to keep your little one safe and sound. In case he/she falls ill, take him/her to the doctor immediately.
