I wanted to write about this for quite some time now but was really busy with Athu. September 9, which is celebrated as Grandparents Day seemed like the best time to pen down my thoughts.

This is about my Father in law who is sixty-nine years old, Though he retired from his hotel management line, he continued to work till now. His income is really not necessary for the family as both his sons are settled and he earns via a pension, house rents, and bank interest. But my father in law wanted to be active  and earn.

He is working for a security company called Nissa Security Office as a collection officer. He has to travel all over Mumbai to collect cheques from big offices and buildings, there are days he will come home drained out and tired but nothing could stop him. He still takes a bus or trains instead of an autorickshaw or prepaid cab.

He wanted granddaughters from the time we got pregnant and he loves  Tamara and Atarah very much. When Atarah turned 6 months old, he asked me what he should get for her. I wanted a high chair so I told him I need one. He asked me to buy it online and he will pay me by cash. I immediately checked out Amazon and got a beautiful orange  high chair with a good offer last month.

He always gets his salary after the 10th so I did not ask him for the money. While my mother in law was doing the house expense budget with the other extra income (rent, pension, and interest) she kept 3,000 aside to give me but my father in law stopped gave the amount from his salary and said, “I want to gift my granddaughter from my hard earned money”.

I was really touched by this behavior of his and will tell this high chair story to Atarah when she grows up. They have given her gold and cash but this “High Chair” will always be cherished.
