The first thing anybody notices about you is your eyes. And if those eyes come with under-eye bags and puffiness, then that’s not a very good first impression, is it? Puffy eyes can be caused by a variety of reasons from dehydration and lack of sleep to stress and allergies, or even by an excess of salt in your diet (whaaat?!). Fortunately, you can bring that puffiness under control with some of these tips and tricks. Come on ladies, it’s time to put those bags to rest.

Here’s how to get rid of the bags under your eyes with 12 simple tricks:

1

Po-ta-to, Po-tah-to

Cut a cold, raw potato into two and place these pieces gently over your eyes for about 10 minutes. The Catecholase enzyme in the potato reduces the water retention around the eyes taking care of your puffiness situation. Who knew potatoes were good for things other than fries?
2

Milk It!

If you have very puffy eyes, then here’s a trick to add to your regular routine. Dip cotton balls in chilled milk and place them over your eyes for 20-30 minutes. Say goodbye to that water retention and those under-eye bags. Lactose intolerant? Not anymore!
3

Oil Be There For You

When in doubt, bring out the Vitamin E. Mix a few drops of Vitamin E oil in a bowl of chilled water. Dip a couple of cotton pads into this mix, place them on your eyes for 20 minutes and you’ll be rid of those puffy eyes once and for all.
4

The Cold Cucumber Cure

Bring home the spa with this puffy eye treatment. All you need are two slices of fresh, chilled cucumber. Place them over your eyes for 20 minutes and relax. The cucumber works as an anti-inflammatory and takes care of your puffiness. Looks like cucumber isn’t just for salad.
5

It’s Tea (Bag) Time!

You know what runway models and grandmas have in common? This trick that works like a charm to quickly reduce eye puffiness! Soak two tea bags in warm water, then chill for a few minutes, and place on your eyes. In just 5 minutes, the Tannins in the tea which act as a mild diuretic will work their magic and voila! You’re left with refreshed, not-so-puffy eyes.
6

Ice, Ice, Baby (And A Spoon)

If quick fixes are your thing, look no further. Take two metal spoons and a glass of iced water. Dip the spoons in the ice for a couple of minutes until the spoons are chilled. Lie down and keep the ice-cold spoons on your eyes for just 30-60 seconds. The cold will reduce swelling under your eyes and soothe any pain. Easy-peasy!
7

Cool It Down

If the tea bags and cucumber slices don’t work, it’s time to go old school. Chill out those puffy eyes with a simple cold cloth compress and watch the under-eye bags slowly disappear. The cold will do the trick!
8

Scream For Cream

Invest in a soothing under-eye cream infused with Retinol, Chamomile, Cucumber or Arnica. These contain properties that reduce inflammation, puffiness and tighten the skin around the eyes. Stay clear of those haemorrhoid creams though ‘coz all they’ll do is irritate the sensitive skin around your eyes. Try the Vaadi Herbals Under Eye Cream With Almond Oil And Cucumber Extract
9

Eat The Right Food, Dude

To take care of your under-eye puffiness and bags in the long run, make changes in your diet. Eating too much salt causes water retention causing, no guesses here, more puffiness. Instead eat potassium-rich foods like bananas, yogurt, beans and leafy greens that help reduce excess fluids in your body. Ta-da! You’re rid of those eye bags for good.
10

Snooze, Don’t Lose

The best way to get rid of those under-eye bags is to get enough sleep. Adults need 7-8 hours of sleep a night (sounds like heaven, no?). Get into a bedtime routine and stick to it. If you’re a stomach sleeper, it’s time to change your position. Gravity causes fluid to collect under your eyes so prop yourself up with soft pillows and sleep on your back to prevent under-eye puffiness. This gives beauty sleep a whole new meaning, doesn’t it?
11

Away With Allergies

Allergies can cause redness, swelling and puffiness around your eyes. Rub your eyes and the puffiness will just increase. Dust, pollen, certain foods, and makeup can cause allergic reactions. If you do suffer from allergies, consult a doctor to prescribe an anti-histamine. And don’t forget to take off your makeup before bed so it doesn’t make your eyes water and cause swelling!
12

I’ll Have An H2O Please

There’s a reason they say water is the elixir of life. While it sounds counterproductive since puffiness is caused by water retention, hydrating will actually reduce the bags under your eyes. While you’re at it, stay off the alcohol and kick that cigarette habit. Alcohol causes dehydration and cigarettes weaken your skin. So, start saying no. And remember, all you need is just 8 glasses of water a day. Should we say “Cheers!”?
