My Experience Of Resuming Work After Delivery

So I resumed office yesterday after a paid leave of 6 months and 1 month of unpaid leave. Right now, my baby is 5 months old and here’s my experience of the first day of work after a long gap.

I got a warm welcome at the office by my boss and colleagues which made me feel really nice. At 10.45 am, I pumped breastmilk in a closed conference room and got a yield of around 150ml. My lunch break is at 1 pm, and since I live close to the office, I went home to feed my little one. To save time, I ate my lunch in the rick, fed my baby once home, and still made it back at work by 2 pm. I pumped again at 4 pm and headed home at 6 pm. By 6.30 pm, I direct-fed my baby and spent my rest of the evening with her, so that she doesn’t feel secluded.

Though it’s a hectic schedule and I’ve to eat in the auto, it feels awesome to work and look after your child at the same time. Here are some of the things I planned in advance though:

  • A good pump, bottles, and icepack for storage.
  • A stash of 3 bottles to manage the first day when I would be away.
  • Place where I was going to pump. I had already spoken to my admin about the same in advance.
  • Arranged a cook and caretaker to take care of my baby in my  absence.

Last but not least, I got a good pedicure, manicure, full body massage and haircut 2 days before  joining office. This made me feel really good about myself 🙂
