We all know for a fact that when kids see others eating Kurkure and fries, they want it too. While we are aware that it’s not good for them, they obviously want it. So here’s a simple recipe you can try at home to ensure that your kids are eating tasty and healthy food.

  • Boil 4 medium sized potatoes. Cool and peel them, and grate. Grating will make it smooth and non-lumpy.
  • Boil 500ml water, add 1 TbSp Ghee/Butter/oil. Bring it to boil and add half cup sooji/rawa/semolina to it. Cook it till it comes to a thick, dough-like consistency
  • In a bowl, put the grated boiled potatoes, cooked semolina, some salt/rock salt to suit your child’s taste, black pepper, chopped coriander. You can add other spices like red chilli powder, chat masala, Peri Peri a according to your child’s taste and age.
  • Use a piping bag, Chakli mould, churo mould or a ziplock bag to make sticks of whatever shape you like. Do this on a baking tray so you can directly transfer it to the oven.

You can bake it in a preheated oven on 180°C for 15-20 mins (till golden brown), I use crisp mode in my microwave for 20 mins. Make sure you drizzle or brush some ghee on it.

Cooks faster. You can always fry it if that’s what you prefer.

I serve it with curd. You can use chutney, sauce or any dip you like.

Simple, isn’t it. And it’s been a hit with the adults too. It lasts for good 7 days, if not consumed the same day.
