In my apartment play area, I recently saw people walking on something that looked like number 8. Out of curiosity, I decided to read and ask more about it, and I realized it is meant for something called 8 Walking or Infinity Shape Walking. It has lots to do with health benefits compared to regular walking, and I see more and more people are making use of this for their daily walking routine. Now let’s understand more about 8 shape walking and its health benefits in detail.

What Is 8 Shaped Walking Or Infinity Walking?

Ancient tradition of “8 Walking” or “Infinity Walking” has been established by Tamil Siddars, who provide an alternative method ( Yogis). Infinity walking is how the western world refers to it.

  • It’s similar to normal walking, except you’ll be walking in an 8-shaped pattern. The 8 shape has been created by combining two circles, each about 6 feet in diameter, in a “South-North” direction.
  • You can make this 8 walking or infinity walk on an open area such as a garden, parking lot, terrace, balcony, etc.
  • On an empty stomach, do this in the morning or evening. The hours of 5 to 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. will be ideal timings.
  • Start walking clockwise from south to north for 15 minutes. Then anticlockwise for 15 minutes. A daily routine of 30 minutes is sufficient, but you can expand the time if you choose.
  • It’s best to walk barefoot (without shoes) and focus on the 8 shape while doing so. While walking, you can practise breathing or chant the OM Mantra. While walking, you can also use Yoga mudra (like Prana Mudra).

So must practice 8 walking or infinity walking, enjoy good health, and try daily to stay healthy and fit.
