August 7th 2019-Today morning, India woke up to a shocking news of the sad demise of former foreign minister and a strong political leader, Sushma Swaraj. She was only 69 and succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrest last night at AIIMS, New Delhi. With her demise, a glorious chapter in India’s politics came to an end as quoted by our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. The country is mourning the loss of an incredible leader, a voracious orator and an influencing citizen who was always there to help those who sought her help during her tenure in Indian politics.

Sushma Swaraj had refused to contest for 2019 elections and had decided to stay connected with country’s politicals functions from a distance. During her tenure in Indian politics as external minister, she made an outstanding place for herself in the cabinet of Narendra Modi and was the go to person for addressing issues like helping Indian Nationals stranded in disputed borders to women in distress outside country. She took charge of her position with due diligence and utmost responsibility creating a revolution in the world of womanhood by making a distinct place for herself in Nation’s political history.

Elected seven types as a Member of Parliament, Sushma Swaraj was the second woman to hold the office after Indira Gandhi. She was also the youngest cabinet minister of Indian state of Haryana. Married to a lawyer, Swaraj Kaushal, Sushma was a doting wife and a dedicated mother to her daughter Bansuri who is also a lawyer now.

A people’s minister, Sushma spent most of her life serving the society. In 2016 she announced her ailment about her kidneys being unable to function and was on dialysis since then. Her health never stopped her from contributing towards society. Her last tweet expressed her gratitude and happiness to our Prime Minister for scratching Article 132 and fixing a 72 year old damage. Sushma Swaraj was indeed a remarkable name in the history of our country’s politics. Her sudden demise has left a big void which will be difficult to fill in.
