While proud Indians were still out celebrating Star Badminton Player P.V Sindhu’s phenomenal victory at the World Badminton Championships , we had our Jewel in the crown moment with Mumbai girl Manasi Joshi winning Gold at BWF World Para Badminton Championship held in Switzerland. Manasi beat three times world champion Parul Parmar in the Singles Category to emerge from the shadows and into the spotlight she richly deserves. Having lost to Parul thrice in earlier matches , Manasi went all out to claim the court . Currently World no 2 at the SL3

Singles , She is an Extra ordinary sportswoman. Hers is a story of Grit , Grace and Overcoming the odds to achieve her dream. Manasi lost her left leg in a car accident in 2011 . It was a devastating blow to Manasi and her family . A software engineer with a desk job , playing badminton was just an activity to stay fit. This slowly turned into determination to keep fit and independent . She converted her disability into her strength .

When she did not get selected in the 2014 Para Asian Games , she did not give up and worked hard to upscale her game. Trained under the Gopichand Academy , Coach Gopichand set a regime customised to focus on her strengths. She became the Bronze winner at the Asian Para Games in 2018. Manasi has won hearts and followers on the Social Media.

Elated to win the BWF World Para Badminton Championship , an Ecstatic Manasi tweeted , “I earned it“, “ Worked every bit for it “ .
