Roberta Burton gave birth to Elias, a healthy 51b 15oz boy after receiving multiple chemotherapy treatments for rare cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma, during her pregnancy.
A relieved mum gave birth to a healthy baby boy after she had chemotherapy during the pregnancy. Roberta Burton had eight sessions of the cancer treatment after being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.

Medics scanned her every two weeks during the pregnancy to check the baby was OK.
Mum-of-three Roberta said: “It is an overwhelming feeling. When you have a baby in any circumstances, they are your little miracle.

“But when you have gone through chemotherapy, you look at him and think ‘How is he so perfect?’.”
Her newborn Elias was a healthy 5lb 15oz when he was delivered three weeks and six days before his due date.

Docs decided he should arrive early to allow Roberta to now undergo radiotherapy, with no risks to the tot.
She said: “There were certain scans I could not have. But they told me I could have chemo after the second semester, and the baby would be protected by the placenta.
“My first consultant had not come across any expectant mums with Hodgkin lymphoma, but my second one had done three or four with successful outcomes.”

There was delight all round when Elias let out a cry as he came into the world with a healthy pink glow.
Roberta praised the staff at the Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary, both in Newcastle, for their excellent care.
The nursing assistant will have a positron emission tomography scan, to check on her condition before starting radiotherapy.

Her mum Louise Fox, 54, who lives next door in Stannington, Northumberland, said: “She is not going to let it beat her.
“She is going to make sure her boys have a happy life.”
