Your newborn is at home. You must be now worried about its skincare, health, and other vital things. Newborn skin is gentle and soft, and it is delicate too. It is vulnerable to several skin-related problems like rashes and infections. Newborn skin may get easily irritated with any chemical and fragrance-based products, including baby wash, baby lotion, and even laundry detergent. Therefore, make sure whichever products you are going to use should have no harsh chemicals in them. Besides, you may follow the tips for newborn skincare that are mentioned below.

Cleaning

Newborn skin is naturally coated with vernix, a wax-like substance that protects the skin of a baby in the womb. This vernix slowly gets peeled off during the first few weeks of the baby’s birth.
Thus, it is advised not to rub your baby’s skin harshly while cleaning because it may make it dry and inflamed. Just rub gently with your soft hands.

Bathing

Avoid bathing the baby for the first 24 hours. For the initial few weeks, excessive bathing for your newborn is not recommended- 2 to 3 times a week should suffice. Excessive bathing can rip off the natural oils from your baby’s soft skin. Therefore, use mild baby soap and lukewarm water to bathe your little one. The duration of your baby’s bath should not be too long as it leads to skin dryness. Additionally, use soft cotton towels to pat dry your baby after a bath.

Natural Products

The baby’s skin is fragile and delicate. It takes some time to get adjust to an external harsh environment. Therefore, natural and organic products are one of the safer options for a baby. These natural baby products are devoid of any harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances that may cause harm to your baby’s soft skin. Thus, pick those baby products for your child that are formulated specifically for babies. These baby products do not irritate the eyes nor their skin. Choose products free of paraben, dyes, and phthalates. Do not use any kind of powders for your baby.
Still, if you see that your baby’s skin is not getting compatible with the products you’ve picked, talk to your doctor for a better solution.

Skin problems

Some babies develop neonatal acne that is usually not much harmful neither requires much medical intervention. These minor skin rashes go off within few days. Simply stop using any product on your baby’s gentle and soft skin. Application of besan, masoor dal is strictly not recommended as it exfoliates the layer of the skin causing inflammation and infection. However, if you observe any unusual skin rash that is getting spread all over the body of your baby, consult with your doctor. These major skin rashes can be atopic dermatitis. Thus, seek your doctor’s help before trying any other skincare product on your baby.

Body Massage

Massages are a great way to bond with your little one. A regular body massage to a baby not only strengthens his/her muscles but also provides proper nourishment and care to its soft skin. Always use gentle strokes to massage the baby to make the baby feel comfortable. Avoid inserting oil in the ears, nose, and eyes.
Avoid using any chemically formulated and fragrance-based baby oil. It may distress your baby’s skin making it irritable and inflamed.

Takeaway

The most important thing to remember is that your baby’s skin is as delicate as a butterfly’s wings! So, be very careful and gentle to provide the best care to your baby.
