Dealing with a stuffy nose can be challenging. For new parents, this cannot be an easy task for a child below 3. Infants and toddlers get cranky and irritable because of stuffy noses. Immunity is yet to build up in kids below the age of 5 years; thus, they get quickly infected with bacteria and viruses.

Fortunately, there are plenty of safe and effective treatments that new parents can try to treat stuffy noses in children.

The first step to treat stuffy noses in kids is to identify the reason for the occurrence. It can be due to viral infection, allergy, or cold and cough.

Fortunately, some telltale signs can help you identify the leading cause of stuffy nose – bacterial infection or viral infection.

If a child’s nose discharge color is clear and watery, it has come from a virus, though the mucus may turn white, green, or yellow for a few days before it turns clear again.

Safe Treatments for Stuffy Nose

One of the safest treatments available for stuffy noses in kids is using saline spray or drops. These products are available at every medical store without any medical prescription. Ideally, two drops of saline water are given to each nostril; still, it is better to consult with your pediatrician before using them.

However, make sure you use plain saline drops for your children, as some saline drops contain medicine.

Steamy Solution for Stuffy Nose

Parents can use a room humidifier or vaporizer in this case. It is one of the effective ways to treat stuffy noses in kids. Make sure that you are using clean water in the vaporizer to give steam to your child. Ideally, vapourization is a safe method.

Few Other Effective Ways to treat Stuffy nose in children

Parents can follow some of these steps to help clear up their child’s stuffy nose:

1. Encourage your child to drink warm water. It helps to drain out the congested mucus and provides relief from the discomfort, too. Warm water, on the other hand, is suitable for the digestive system.

2. If your child is older, you can teach to blow their nose. Remember to put a clean tissue in front of their nose to clean out the mucus gently yet effectively. And ask your child to wash their hands immediately after this cleaning.
