C-section, also known as cesarean delivery, is classified as major abdominal surgery. It could be a planned delivery or an emergency life-saving delivery. Be it life-saving or planned, the mother’s body goes through emotional and physical trauma.

Recovering from a C-section takes time, but you can use some tips to ease your recovery.

  • Give your body plenty of rest and do not hesitate from asking for help from your loved ones. Take naps when your baby is asleep. Do not strain yourself in taking care of your baby.
  • Go for regular walks to keep yourself away from the risk of gaining excess weight, constipation, formation of blood clots, or any other heart-related issues.
  • Drink enough water to keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration can lead to constipation, in turn leading to straining your stitches/injury during bowel movements.
  • In case of excess pain around the stitches and cramps due to uterus contraction, ask your doctor to prescribe a pain relief medication.
  • At times C-section delivery leads to issues in normal breastfeeding. Take the help of a lactation consultant to normalize your breastfeeding.
  • While laughing, sneezing, or coughing, always place a soft pillow on your injury to reduce the strain.
  • Post your shower, tap-dry the area of injury and apply the prescribed healing medications. Avoid having a tub-bath and bubble bath. Keep the area of injury clean and dry always.
  • Follow a balanced diet to give your body enough nutrition for faster healing.
  • Avoid having sex till the time you recover well and take the doctor’s advice for the same.
  • Avoid using stairs, frequently bending over, and lifting heavy objects as it can strain the injury.
