Did you know that coconut oil can be used in many different ways other than just on the scalp?

It hydrates and moisturises the skin & hair, relieves dry irritated itchy skin from any rashes and soothes any sores or inflammation on the skin. Regular use also prevents the scalp from having flaky skin. It acts as a perfect addition to your baby’s hair & skin care for soft, supple skin and shiny, healthy hair!

Plus, it also has antimicrobial effects and makes it a great BFF for your family. But interestingly, it’s not the only way you can use this magic potion. Check out these ways that you can add coconut oil to your DIY routine.

7 Ways To Add Coconut Oil In DIY Routine

1. Use As a Makeup Remover

Coconut oil works miracles for deep-cleaning pores and removing makeup. If your skin is especially going haywire and you want to avoid multi-ingredient formulas, go for coconut oil.

Liquefy the oil using the heat of your fingers if it is in solid form. Then, gently rub it on your face using your fingertips for several minutes to clean your skin and remove the makeup. Use a cotton pad to wipe gently.

2. Use For Better Hair Health

Use this oil as a hot oil treatment for healthier hair. Heat the oil until it is warm and melted. However, it should not be scalding hot. Then massage the coconut oil into your hair, starting at the scalp while also concentrating on any dry ends.

After that, put on a shower cap and wrap a warm towel around your head. Wait for about ten to fifteen minutes and then wash your hair with shampoo.

3. Use As a Body Scrub

Combine coconut oil with sugar, fresh ground coffee or sea salt for an excellent body scrub. Create a body scrub and apply it in the shower. Then rinse off with warm water.

Here’s the quantity for sugar and sea salt–use a 2:1 ratio of those ingredients to coconut oil. As for freshly ground coffee, go for a 1:1 ratio.

4. Use For Oil Pulling

Better your oral hygiene by using coconut oil. This age-old technique has shown to have multiple benefits. All you need is to take a tablespoon and swish it around your mouth for about 15 to 20 minutes. Ensure to move it around in the mouth as much as possible. This process of oil pulling will remove harmful bacteria, fight bad breath and even reduce plaque and gingivitis.

5. Use For Mani and Pedi Sessions

Use a little bit of coconut oil to soften those dry, cracked nails and even tough cuticles. Spend some time to properly moisturise cuticles and repair your nails, by rubbing the oil in to ensure it penetrates them properly. In no time, you will have happier hands and feet.

6. Use as Ear Wax Cleanser

Coconut oil has antiseptic properties and hence a few drops can be effective in clearing up a mild earache.

The oil can also help to clean out earwax gently. It is completely safe to use, unlike the commercial options that usually have more potent ingredients to get the job done.

7. Use as Natural Body Deodorant

Body odour is produced as a result of bacterial growth that happens when sweat gets trapped against one’s skin. While coconut oil won’t stop you from sweating, it will work to kill these bacteria and hence help in eliminating the smell.

Coconut oil can also be used prior to applying the regular antiperspirants and deodorants that may cause irritation. It creates a protective barrier and helps soothe sensitive underarms.

Just rub a small amount of oil to clean the underarms post showering. Once the oil gets absorbed, apply other products.

So the next time you think that the bottle of coconut oil can only be used to massage your baby’s scalp or your own scalp, try out these uses. Include coconut oil as part of your DIY routine regularly and avail great benefits.
