A lot of physical and mental changes happen during pregnancy which can be hard to adjust to. Your body is changing at a rapid rate, and so is the way your body smells during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, body odour is one of the things that can worsen. Why does this happen? What are the reasons and cure for pregnancy body odour?

Read on to know the answers.

Why Does Your Body Odour Worsen During Pregnancy?

During pregnancy, your body requires more blood to carry the nutrition and oxygen that your baby needs in the womb. The blood supply increases on an average by up to 45 percent. This extra blood can leave you feeling warm and sweaty.

You are likely to sweat more in areas where you have more sweat glands, like the groin and armpits. During pregnancy, the sex hormones called estrogens help to keep you cool by balancing your body temperature.

Some pregnant women also experience night sweats which are caused by the changing hormones.

In case you notice that your night sweats or odours have changed significantly, contact your doctor.

One of the causes of night sweating could also be thyroid.

The thyroid hormone is responsible for regulating temperature, digestion, and other body functions. Depending on which trimester you’re in during pregnancy, the thyroid gland might make more hormones than normal, raising your body temperature. This can make you sweat more than usual, especially during sleep.

When To Expect Increased Body Odour

During your first trimester, you might notice that your body odour worsens. However, when that happens might depend on the cause behind it.

While in the second and third trimesters, increased blood may be the reason for body odour. Weight gain and skin folds may also cause body odour to increase.

During pregnancy, it is not unlikely for body odour to begin right from the time you conceive and continue until your baby is born.

Other reasons are changes in hormones, diet and weight gain.
