Surrogacy involves a woman who carries a baby for someone else. After the birth of the baby, the birth mother gives custody and guardianship to the intended parents. There are different types of surrogacy like altruistic (non-commercial) surrogacy, traditional surrogacy and commercial surrogacy.

  1. Priyanka Chopra: Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas chose the path of surrogacy for parenthood.

They were supposed to welcome their baby via surrogate in April 2022. However, it was a premature delivery in the 27th week, and the baby was delivered in January.

  1. Preity Zinta: In November 2021, Bollywood actress Preity Zinta shared on her Instagram handle post that she became a mum to twins, Jai and Gia through surrogacy.

The Kal Ho Na Ho actress got married to her American boyfriend Gene Goodenough in 2016.

  1. Shilpa Shetty: While her son Vihaan was born via natural birth, on February 15, 2020, actress Shilpa Shetty welcomed her second child Samisha through surrogacy.
  1. Karan Johar: Director-producer Karan Johar is a single father who chose to embrace fatherhood via surrogacy in February 2017.

He is a proud father to twins Roohi and Yash Johar and has embraced parenthood like a pro.

  1. Aamir Khan: Aamir Khan’s former wife Kiran Rao experienced a pregnancy loss. It was then that the couple decided to opt for surrogacy. The name of their son is Junaid Khan.
  1. Shah Rukh Khan: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan who already had two children, Aaryan and Suhana, announced the birth of his third child Abram via surrogacy back in 2013.
  1. Ekta Kapoor: Filmmaker and television producer Ekta Kapoor welcomed her son Ravie on January 27, 2019, via surrogacy and is a single mother.

She had to go through a long journey with multiple unsuccessful IUI and IVF attempts for over six years.

  1. Tusshar Kapoor: Ekta Kapoor’s brother, actor Tusshar Kapoor decided to embrace fatherhood through surrogacy in 2016.
  1. Sunny Leone: After adopting their first child, Nisha Kaur Weber, from Latur in June 2017, actress Sunny Leone and her husband Daniel Weber announced on her social media that she had two more kids Asher Singh Weber and Noah Singh Weber through surrogacy.
  1. Shreyas Talpade: After almost 14 years of their marriage, Indian actor, film director and producer Shreyas Talpade and his wife Deepti chose surrogacy to have their daughter Aadya on May 7, 2018.
  1. Lisa Ray: Actress Lisa Ray and her husband Jason Dehni decided to choose surrogacy to embrace parenthood. The duo became proud parents of twin daughters, Sufi and Soleil in June 2018.

There are reasons behind choosing surrogacy. Some of these include medical problems with the uterus, and conditions that make pregnancy risky for the mother, like severe heart disease or a previous history of hysterectomy to remove your uterus.
