Dyspepsia or indigestion is extremely common during pregnancy. Hormones in a pregnant woman’s body are raging during this time, which may result in indigestion. Once the womb of the mother grows, it invariably presses against the stomach, which causes an inconvenience during digestion. It is normal for a pregnant woman to feel full, nauseated, sick or burp at regular intervals, and these are all signs of indigestion.
An extreme form of indigestion can result in heartburn and acidity. At this point, it is advisable for you to be cautious about your diet. Ensure that the food you eat does not add to your acidity level. Heartburn and acidity are common side effects, but if you continue to experience prolonged uneasiness, consult a doctor.
Try and follow these remedies to reduce indigestion before consulting the doctor.
1. Eat six small meals instead of three solid meals. This can work the same way as three small meals. Ensure that the quantity of your small meals are a stipulated quantity that does not grow according to cravings. The logic behind this is to have your stomach work with small quantities of food at regular intervals, reducing indigestion to a minimal.
2. Milk can be a solution to a number of stomach ailments for some women. Ice-cream and yogurt can have the same effect for those who are intolerant towards the taste of milk. Milk is not a guarantee in solving indigestion, and women who are intolerant to milk can react to it in a different way.
3. Eating late in the night can cause an increase in indigestion. Your body is accustomed to slow digestion in the night, so it is advisable for you to eat a minimal amount at night. Eating late only increases the chances of indigestion. Since your stomach works slower in the night, eating late does not digest your food completely, leaving the reminiscence of last night’s food in your stomach.
4. While working on reducing indigestion, ensure that you do not follow any of these instigators that trigger the problem further. Bending down, drinking fruit juices or eating chocolates can increase uneasiness.
The above stated solutions are for temporary relief that might not work for all women alike. Consult a doctor if the uneasiness persists.
