Stretch Marks. Those hideous, heinous things that sprout up all over your body, as and when they please! Are you being punished for being pregnant? We’ll never know the answer to that question but we do know this, there are ways to prevent those ugly stripes!

1. Health is Wealth

Make changes in your lifestyle! There’s no substitute to fitness. Along with all the nutritious things you stuff down your throat for the baby, throw in a little for you. Food rich in Vitamin A, E and omega 3 helps with retaining your skin’s elasticity and will prevent the surfacing of stretch marks altogether. Fish, fish oil, eggs, carrots, walnuts and oysters too, can do the trick.

2.Water your Body

Think of your body as a sapling inching towards the sun in need of a little water, always. Keep hydrated and never underestimate the distance a little extra water will take you. When loads of water is consumed, the body is detoxified and supple, capable of all possible recuperation from excess stretching of the skin, done to accommodate the child. In simple terms, no stretch marks.

3.Exercise makes Perfect

Exercise elevates blood flow and confers flexibility. It keeps you from growing too big in too little time and hence counteracts stretch marks. Physical activity along with being a blessing to stretch mark prevention, is also a forerunner to a smooth and painless delivery.

4.Put yourself First

The answer to itchiness is never itching! Care for your skin. Keep it exfoliated and moisturized. Never let it get too dry and make sure you’re always on your toes with regards to any sort of redness that may crop up. Rub shea butter and coconut oil over the abdomen and buttocks as they’re the most stretch marks prone areas of your body.

5.Let Bygones be Bygones

Any stretch marks that may have crept up, unnoticed, treat them immediately before they leave behind lasting scars. Use creams containing retinoids or glycolic acid, on prescription of course and rub it in a circular motion over the affected area. That should do it for them but if it doesn’t, don’t sweat it. You’re a tigress who earned her stripes.
