The holiday season is around the corner and the time to grab our suitcases and pack for a fun filled trip with our families has finally arrived. A family holiday is a great way to bond as a family and travelling with kids is a fun way to teach them about people, places, cuisines, cultures and history. The earlier your child starts travelling, the more confident and they will learn to easily adapt to new environments.

However, if you are travelling with a toddler, there are a list of things that must be included in your holiday packing. Whether it is a short or longer road trip, you need to pack right to make the journey comfortable for both you and your toddler. Your toddler deserves to see the world outside the home and you need a break too.

So here’s a handy and practical checklist of things that you must carry if you are travelling with a toddler.

11 Important Things To Pack In Your Toddler’s Holiday Bag

1. Snack Box

Snacks such as fruits, cereals, crackers, biscuits or snacks that they like should be packed and be on the top of your toddler packing list to meet your child’s hunger pangs while on the move. Get leakproof and airtight containers to keep the food fresh for longer.

Avoid plastic containers as they tend to emit harmful chemicals when heated, for instance, exposure to the sun.

2. Diapers, Diaper Cream, Wipes, Handwash and Changing Pad

If your toddler is not yet toilet trained or has just got off the diapers phase, packing diapers, diaper cream, wipes, handwash and a foldable changing pad is necessary to add to the list. The limited access to washroom facilities can make diapers a safe choice.

Diaper rashes can come uninvited so do pack in a diaper cream for safety. Make sure you include wipes to clean your baby and an organic baby friendly handwash like the Baby Chakra Natural Foam handwash that gives 99.9% protection from germs but at the same time is gentle on your baby’s delicate hands.

A changing pad will enable you to easily and hygienically change your little one’s diaper on the move.

3. Umbrella Stroller

Umbrella strollers are smaller and lightweight, unlike regular strollers. Hence they can be carried around easily and folded into a small size. They are ideal for travelling with toddlers who are above 6 months as they can sit up by themselves.

4. Car Seat

Car seats are usually available everywhere. However, one may not be able to guarantee the quality and it can be expensive. Hence to keep your little one safe and comfortable, take your own seats as you will also know how to safely install them.

5. Extra Pair of Shoes

6. Easy On and Off Outfits

Rompers and outfits with minimal buttons or hooks should be your go-to choice when making your toddler packing list. Not only will you save yourself with the hassle of struggling with their outfits but they will also be less likely to get hurt as it avoids the outfit from getting stuck anywhere.

You can pack outfits in zip lock bags to make things easier.

7. Emergency Medications and Ointments

If your child is on any kind of medication, make sure to pack the medicines. Besides that, a medical kit with emergency medicines for tummy aches, loose motions, motion sickness, fever etc., ointments and band aids for any possible cuts and bruises are a must have in your holiday first aid box. Furthermore, if you are outdoors sight seeing with your toddler, it’s better to protect them from mosquito, insect and bug bites which can cause discomfort. Besides packing a mosquito repellent you can pick a good after bite roll-on to soothe the area.

Kids can get restless while you are on the road and the only way to distract them is by keeping them engaged with things they like. Pack colorful storybooks and their favourite toys that will keep them entertained and happy.

Watch their favorite cartoon show on a tablet with them while you are on the road or during air travel. Do not forget to download their favorite shows in advance.

9. Blanket

The weather when travelling can vary and hence a cozy blanket will keep your child warm and comfortable. You will definitely need it if your little one needs swaddling

10. Small Cooler with Ice packs

To keep perishable food items like whole milk cold and fresh if you are going on a road trip , use an insulated mini cooler for storage. This will keep the milk fresh temporarily.

11. Breast Pump

A breast pump will let you easily pump in the milk to feed your toddler. You need not struggle with finding a proper space as it makes breastfeeding possible anywhere.

You might want to pack a lot more like the baby’s pushchair or potty seats, Although, toddlers learn to use what’s available when they know they have no other option.

Travel helps children adapt to new situations and places. It exposes them to different sights, sounds, smells, colours, languages, food, and faces, all of which help them to learn. While it may seem like a difficult task to travel with kids, if you are well prepared it is not as difficult as it looks and it’s the best thing you will be doing for their growth.
