Being a work at home moms or WAHMs is a way for women who have children to continue their career path, proving that having a child doesn’t have to be a hindrance in their career development. The reasons why many women are opting for this may differ, however, the fact that this phenomenon is beginning to gain popularity shows that it is here to stay.

Below are the stories of two successful WAHMs who portray the growing potential of women all over the world.

1. Carlie Kercheval

Carlie Kercheval is a mother of three, a military wife and a successful WAHM. In an interview with clothedinscarlet, she shared her story as a WAHM. Carlie is a blogger who manages three blogs- Today’s Frugal Mom, Managing Your Blessings and Fulfilling Your Vows. She has also co-authored a book with her husband titled ‘Learning to Speak life: Fruit of the spirit’. Apart from this, she is also a speaker at a radio show. However, what sets her apart is the fact that she not only mothers 3 children, but is also a homeschooling mom.

Her first experience as a WAHM was when she started an online business on eBay and went from selling a few household items to dealing with large vendors. Enterprising indeed. She has been a WAHM for over 13 years now. She then stumbled upon blogging and after being bitten by the writer’s bug, there was no going back.

On being asked how she manages her work-life balance, she described that her typical day starts with homeschooling, and once she’s done homeschooling her three kids, they go off to engage in a 4-5 hour activity. It is during this time that she manages her websites and gets work done. She also works at night, after the children go to bed. This is also when she gets some time to spend with her husband. A hectic day indeed, but since Carlie has found her purpose that makes her life so happy and satisfying. There’s no turning back now.

2. Missy Ward

Missy Ward is the owner of Affiliate Summit, the co-publisher of revenews.com, the co-founder of itsaWAHMthing.com and operates other affiliate websites. All this and being a mom? You wouldn’t think so, right? In an interview on the “WAHM entrepreneur success stories” series on the website she co-founded, itsaWAHMthing.com, she shared her experience as a WAHM and how that idea went a long way for her. In the interview, she mentioned that she started her venture of the affiliate force in April 2003 with her partner Shawn Collins. Back then, she was going through a divorce and was a single mom of an almost 3-year old. They invested the little money that they had and started the business venture, which is now a multi-million dollar business.

She described her average day, in the interview, as the regular wake up, make breakfast and pack the kids off to school. She then goes upstairs to her office and works. She runs some business-related errands, attends meetings and then picks up her kids to drop them off at their various clubs and classes. She then squeezes in some more work before the children arrive. This is when she begins making dinner for them, helps them with their homework and gets them to bed. She then goes back to the office and finishes up more work.

In the interview, she described her biggest challenge as managing her work-life balance, which she mentioned, does get frustrating at times.
