Recently, Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor, who welcomed her son Vayu with husband Anand Ahuja last August, shared her little one is almost ready to take his first steps.

Read on as we tell you more about what Vayu’s parents had to tell about his development and other important growth milestones that a baby achieves at ten months.

Sonam Kapoor and her husband, Anand Ahuja frequently post about Vayu on their Instagram accounts and keep their fans updated on what their munchkin is up to. Recently, Anand took to his Instagram to share a picture where little Vayu can be seen ready to walk all by himself.

Anand captioned the picture, “You should never quit, and you should never try to explain…!” The parents seemed proud of their baby’s development and their fans quickly flocked to the post to shower their love on little Vayu.

Besides walking, your baby will also achieve other crucial growth milestones at ten months. These milestones are usually achieved in physical, cognitive, social, and emotional stages. Ahead, we give you a detailed breakdown of your baby’s specific achievements in each category.

Physical Developmental Milestones

Here’s an insight into your 10-month-old’s prominent physical traits and motor skills.

  • Starts to crawl well: Your baby will master crawling, which is an essential part of their overall growth and development.
  • They will start using pincer grasp: This refers to the ability to use the index finger and thumb to pick up small objects. This development facilitates the introduction of finger foods to your little one.
  • They will move from their tummy to sitting position: By this stage, if your baby gets bored of tummy time, they will independently roll into the sitting position.
  • Pulls to stand: Standing is the first step towards walking and by the end of nine months, your baby will pull themselves up into a standing position, using an object for support.
  • May move forward while standing: Once on their feet, your baby will make an attempt to walk by putting their feet forward. Eventually, they may start walking while taking support from an object.

Cognitive Developmental Milestones

A 10-month-old’s cognitive development includes brain development, intelligence, and overall thinking progress.

  • Will develop object permanence: The ability to recognise an object is referred to as object permanence. At ten months, your baby will know that an object, even if hidden, continues to exist and did not disappear. This will make them less anxious when you or your partner are not in their sight.
  • Will search for hidden objects: Your baby will try to find objects that are hidden or moved from their vision. For instance, if their toy slips under the couch, your baby will learn to find it.
  • Enjoys looking at illustrative books: Your baby will enjoy sitting in your lap and looking at books filled with pictures. They will also love to listen to stories and visually absorb the illustrations.
  • Will associate meaning with words: As their language develops, your baby will now be able to understand the meaning of certain words, such as “hello”, “no”, and “bye”, and also remember the sounds of their favourite foods or toys.
  • Repeats actions: One of the popular attributes of a 10-month-old’s behaviour is the ability to repeat or imitate actions. By this stage, your little one will form a memory of action and remember the response to it. Then, they will do the action to observe how you react.

Social And Emotional Developmental Milestones

The developments of this stage indicate that your baby is preparing for social gatherings and emotional temperament.

  • Starts waving goodbye: Your baby will learn to wave goodbye and also understand the meaning of this gesture.
  • May develop stranger anxiety: Your baby may not feel comfortable in the company of strangers, and resist going into their arms.
  • They will start reacting to situations: Your baby will now have a wide range of emotions. They may start to cry if you take a toy away from them. Similarly, they may get nervous if they hear loud noises or sounds.

Conclusion

We are happy to see Sonam and Anand giving us frequent glimpses into little Vayu’s crucial developmental milestones. But remember, every baby is different, and while some may achieve their milestones early, others may take a little bit more time to reach their goals. So do not panic, and discuss with a peadiatrician to understand ways to help encourage your little one to achieve their growth milestones.
