Is it better or worse? Here are some day care pros and cons for infant that you must know.

There are moms who believe staying at home is what is best for their children. For some moms, there is nothing better for a child than for the mom to be around all the time. I am a stay-at-home mom at the moment. I never thought that would be what I would be doing.

I grew up in a house with two working parents. I was in daycare from the age of 3 to the time I entered high school. My parents didn’t have an option to do anything else. They worked full-time and there was no one else around to pick me up from school and take me home. It was part of my way of life.

I always thought that I would be working right after I had my baby. I would do the regular maternity leave and go back to work as soon as it was over. But then, the circumstances in my life got me to a place where I left my job when I was about 6 weeks pregnant. I chose to go through my pregnancy unemployed and thought that maybe after I had my baby, I could consider returning to work.

Now that my baby is around, I can’t imagine being at work quite yet. I’m fortunate enough that I have the option to stay at home. I get to watch her develop and grow. Lately, she’s been learning how to crawl and if we put on music for her, especially something like the songs of Ghotu Motu Ki Toli, she bobs up and down as if she’s dancing. I’m glad I am around for it.

I do think I will eventually go back to working full time. And, if that means I have to put her into day care, I will.

Day care isn’t a good thing or a bad thing.  I don’t see much of a difference between those of my friends who grew up with stay at home moms and me and my siblings who grew up with a working mom. We all learned how to socialize and be independent. We all ended up successful in our careers and married to good people.

In the end, it’s a matter of what works for you. If you need to put your child in day care, it’s okay. If you are able to be home with your child, that’s fine too. I really believe that as long as we are good role models for our children, they will grow up to be people we can really be proud of.
