Why insist is on family food?

Many of you would have noticed that in my answers I always mention " Offer family food whatever you all eat as family ". There is no need to make anything special for the babies. We see lot of questions "Give me a diet chart and receipes so that my baby will eat? " will you be able to make beetroot cutlet and egg muffins every day to your baby? Is special receipes even a solution for not eating? A big NO. Eating is part of our life style, One has to eat everything offered and not be choosy because as we need all the nutrition.

So rather than choosing temporary way (you made something special and your kid ate without fuss, and ditches other food is not the solution to the problem) get to the solution. There are few steps you can adopt immediately.

1. Eat along with the baby, Don't wait for the baby to finish and then you eat. This will frustrate you more. If we eat together Baby will also feel good and they always like company. They will imitate us, This way they will learn how to do dip dip, spoon and fork usage etc.

2. No TV , Mobile etc. Refer my post on distracted feeding and force feeding under the hashtag #weaningatarah .

3. Offer family food and let your plate be similar. This way babies will know he or she is been offered the same food, " If mumma is eating then I will also eat". And this will benefit us as well , " We will ditch the oily achar" because we don't want our babies to see and ask for it.

4. Encourage self feeding , They love to explore foods with their hands. Once they get the hang of it they will master Selfeeding. Babies who selfeeds eats to their hunger because the full control is with them.

So at my place I try my best to offer whatever we eat. We use to eat very spicy food but because of Atarah we have reduced a lot. But there are certain cooking where I can't avoid chilli powder like fish curry, mutton curry, chicken curry, tamarind curry etc. During those days I will make fish soup or chicken and mix it with rice and offer . Will try to keep the main ingredient same but will adjust the spice level for her. But these days she demands the spicy curry itself and I offer little.

This is what we ate for our dinner, roti and bhaigan ka barta.

Keep your little one in family food and never make anything special so that baby will eat. Offer simple homecooked meals.

Couldn't agree more!! Whenever mokshitha doesn't eat, or behaves fussy, I get to hear things like, prepare something else for her. She will eat. Or give her favourite food. She will eat. But for how long?
I know I won't be able to make special things for her everyday. So I stick to what we eat on regular basis, same dal rice roti sabzi whatever we cook at home same thing she too is given. If she doesn't eat, then I don't force. She will eat when she is hungry. I'm perceived to be a horrible mom that way, who starves her child 🤣
And, bribing to eat is an absolute no .. that eat this, I'll give you chocolate. She will eat by having genuine interest in food.

Perfect moms story yaar love it

That's lovely

Bookmarked. I hope I am able to teach Govind these habits.

Akanksha exactly, I just leave it if she is not interested . And yes I'm a bad mother as well 😆, the mother who gives sheera and kheer often are mamta moms 😆😆

AMRITA MALLIK you will get it there, Slowly and steadily. Do not hurry.

Can't agree less.... Perfect 👍👍

Exactly true n agreed👍👍

Ohhh i never knew but nice u shared , thanks

Very nice....

Agree with you Rebecca Prakash

Thank you all.

Oh. This little batul has also got this tastebud of eating spicy food. I mix a lil of tht curry with more rice or just wipe the sabjee off tht extra curry and put in her plate. Or give her daal rice or daal roti instead on such days. Believe me life is easier when we offer same food.

Agreed with your points...

Definitely easy no doubt.
