Why insist is on family food?
Many of you would have noticed that in my answers I always mention " Offer family food whatever you all eat as family ". There is no need to make anything special for the babies. We see lot of questions "Give me a diet chart and receipes so that my baby will eat? " will you be able to make beetroot cutlet and egg muffins every day to your baby? Is special receipes even a solution for not eating? A big NO. Eating is part of our life style, One has to eat everything offered and not be choosy because as we need all the nutrition.
So rather than choosing temporary way (you made something special and your kid ate without fuss, and ditches other food is not the solution to the problem) get to the solution. There are few steps you can adopt immediately.
1. Eat along with the baby, Don't wait for the baby to finish and then you eat. This will frustrate you more. If we eat together Baby will also feel good and they always like company. They will imitate us, This way they will learn how to do dip dip, spoon and fork usage etc.
2. No TV , Mobile etc. Refer my post on distracted feeding and force feeding under the hashtag #weaningatarah .
3. Offer family food and let your plate be similar. This way babies will know he or she is been offered the same food, " If mumma is eating then I will also eat". And this will benefit us as well , " We will ditch the oily achar" because we don't want our babies to see and ask for it.
4. Encourage self feeding , They love to explore foods with their hands. Once they get the hang of it they will master Selfeeding. Babies who selfeeds eats to their hunger because the full control is with them.
So at my place I try my best to offer whatever we eat. We use to eat very spicy food but because of Atarah we have reduced a lot. But there are certain cooking where I can't avoid chilli powder like fish curry, mutton curry, chicken curry, tamarind curry etc. During those days I will make fish soup or chicken and mix it with rice and offer . Will try to keep the main ingredient same but will adjust the spice level for her. But these days she demands the spicy curry itself and I offer little.
This is what we ate for our dinner, roti and bhaigan ka barta.
Keep your little one in family food and never make anything special so that baby will eat. Offer simple homecooked meals.
