My baby is 10 days old and is having mild jaundice which is quite common. Is it so that we should not do mustard oil massage when the baby is suffering from jaundice? Please suggest.

Hi Neha. Hope you are consulting a pediatrician very closely for this. Take very good care of the baby :) and shout to us for any help!

Here is what Babychakra expert Dr Aarushi Upadhyay has to advise.

U canassahe with any oil u want. Exposd the child to sunlight for 10 min daily for jaundice go b treated. But make sure sun dosent come in eyes of the child. Remove all clothes n expose to sun. exposure is advised in morning hours before 11 am.

keep your baby in morning sun ray's

Hi Neha and Gayatri. Thanks a lot for your advices.Yes I am exposing baby to early morning sunlight. Will continue with the massage then.Tx again!!!!!

Dear Mom.. It's quite common of jaundice symptoms in a new born. Please don't worry untill unless there is any fever or rashes or any other severe symptoms.. Please expose the baby skin to the early morning sun rays between 7am . to 8 am and you can do the same in the evening rays between 4.30 to 5.30 also..You can hold the baby in a slant position so the eyes are not directly exposed to sun. Continue this for a month..

You can message your child with any oils that best suits your baby's skin..Must watch for dry skin or rashes after the oil massage which helps you to decide the best oil for your child. Take care..

As per Advised by Dr Riddhi Babychakra Prenatal expert -
Hi Neha , dre is nothing like u should not use mustard oil for babies with jaundice .

There's an article on neonatal jaundice by a pediatrician on BabyChakra, that should help you. Just type jaundice in the search bar, you will find it.
