Congratulations! By when are you planning for a baby?
Congratulations! How many weeks are you?
I have a
2 years old baby
Hi Roohi. For activities with your 5 month old, you will have to spend a lot of time with the kid to help him develop a lot of skills that will be needed as he grows up. Just leaving the child with toys isn't good enough. Here are a few suggestions you can try with the baby.
Even before he's eating solids, your baby sees you using utensils and becomes curious about them. Help acquaint him with the spoon a little early by playing these games with some milk, or use them for variety once you've introduced some other foods.
Though you probably know about the "airplane coming in for a landing" trick, there are endless variations. A good variation is "rocket, landing on the moon": Hold the spoon down below the table or high-chair tray, then bring it up quickly but carefully (as close to vertical as you can without spilling the contents) and gently place it in your baby's mouth just as you say "moon."
Or try a boat trick where the spoon is coming straight to the baby in his filed of vision. or you can try a bird version where the bird is flying in a fun bobbing up and down way and lands in his mouth. be careful don't spill. But even if it gets messy, what's the harm! Make a lot of sounds while you play and laugh a lot. Have fun!
Great question! Firstly leave the baby on tummy on the floor (over a cloth or a soft mattress)- that's good for both physical and mental growth. Create a good collection of instrumental classical music and play it 24*7. I can't say enough about the role of music in building intelligence! Thirdly subscribe to a children's library and set some time out for reading every single day. (you will see an article on activities and months for 6 months +) there are many types of Toddler and baby books. Show him pictures and talk about them and don't worry about his understanding right now. Simply set a routine. Last of all, take him to the park everyday and show things around. It will trigger his naturalistic intelligence too. At the ISP parenting class,I also learnt that flash cards can be done from the last term of pregnancy. But there's a way to do it which they explain in detail. If you pm me on chat, I can give you details.
Try & Grab 2 Books - The secret of childhood by Maria Montessori and How Smart is your baby by Glen Domann. They have all you need to know!
There are a lot of games you can play. Do read to your child everyday. Select books with larger pictures and color. Babies ar this age are keen on music and sound. You can also get a play gym at watch your baby explore sounds on his own. Whenever you shop for your child now and in future, consider what your child is doing in terms of physical development. Has baby started grabbing finger, crawling etc. All the best!
