When my daughter was 2 years old, she had a very severe food poisoning episode which took around 1 week to recover. We were at a marriage function and though I gave her just packaged water from there, it happened. Besides medicines and things like zinc solution her paediatrician gave me a very good tip for recovery.
When her vomiting and loose motions were not as incessant he told me to give her light tomato shorba which helped her recover and gain her appetite after many medicines.
1 ripe tomato (roughly chopped)
1/2 apple (roughly chopped)
1 tbsp moong daal washed (optional)
2 garlic cloves
1 small piece of ginger (roughly chopped)
1/4 tea spoon turmeric
Salt and pepper to taste.
1. Take a cooker and apart from salt and pepper add everything. Add 3 cups water and close lid and on simmer let it cool to 3-4 whistles.
2. When steam is out open it and mash it well with hand blender and strain it.
3. Add little salt and pepper to taste and serve hot.
Usually shorba has many spices and oil but in this condition one must avoid it. Turmeric is good for stomach infections so have added it. This shorba not only increases appetite but gives energy and is tasty too. In Winters when kids have dyssentry or if we are at a cold place, this is best.
Apart from this curd rice and BRAT (Banana, Rice, Apple, Toast) diet is also given when baby is in condition of taking solids.
