When we started weaning it was such a smoothe ride. I mean, seriously, first two months just glided. And then came Diwali and baby S caught a viral fever. Bas, tabhi se mahabharat shuru. Trust me, i used to be so happy with her weaning and tables turned totally. Not even a spoonful would go inside her stomach. I would be at my wits end as to what should i make and how on earth to feed her. She had totally lost her appetite and had become so damn fussy. Anyways much time has elapsed. So i thought i ll just jot down few things which helped me overcome or rather pass that phase.
🎊 Do not force your child. Never. The more you force, the more averse the child will become towards food. Also, there is always the danger of food entering the wind pipe of a crying child.
🎊 Distraction works best. I have taken her to garden and fed. At times, i have also switched on the TV to distract her.
🍎 The acceptability of food is much more during the 1st hour of being awake.
🍒 I used to feed her milk the moment she would get up. I stopped that and there was an increase in appetite for food.
🌽 Do not fret over quantity. Even 4 spoons are good topped with a bottle of milk. Only thing to be taken care of is feed the child in frequent intervals.
🍉Fruits are children's favourites. Introduce as many fruits as possible even if in lesser portions.
🍟Junk is to be avoided but once in a while doesn't harm. I used to give her french fries if she wudnt have anything else.
🍚 Rice puffs and ragi biscuits are another great alternative for mid meal munching.
🍱 Change is the key. Keep changing the food. Child will like something or the other. There were days when i had to make 4 to 5 things one after the other praying that she wud eat something.
🍿 Check up with your doctor if multivitamins can be given.
🙏 This is just a phase and this too shall pass.
The opinion above is totally personal and you may choose to differ. After all you know the best for your baby.
Was your child a fussy eater? Or was it a smooth ride?
