Depression is real.

Especially in expecting, new moms & toddler moms.

And it's treatable.

This news item got me thinking - we talk about post partum depression but do we recognise depression out of this circle? Do we know people who suffer from this disease which is like any other ailment, and do we send people to seek professional/medical help & therapy?

What shud we do to create more awareness abput depressiin and get rid of the stigma attached to it in india??

I would love to know ur thoughts...

My God!!! It is so important to be vocal about depression!!

Remove social stigma...treat it as a condition. Out of ones control but as normal as getting any physical condition

It is absolutely important to raise voice and actually the problem is people don't discuss about it and even worse is that sometimes they don't even realize that it's kind of killing them. I think Like there are yoga classes or any other vocational classes available there should be therapeutic session available for this particular ailment..

My dad is going through this phase. He has already battled with this situation 7yrs back. M so afraid this time as m not with him. Me my brother my mom and my hubby are doing our best to keep him motivated.
asha ma'am... Do we any expert who can give an insight about "flower batch therapy"?
It's an homeopathic treatment for depression. It worked so well for me.

People visit a doctor for physical health but feel shy to accept or to go for treatment for mental health .we still have to get over this as a society ...
Little bit of me time , little bit of meditations ..and sometimes doing things for yourself and exclusively helps a lot !!
I am forgive and forget person ..so that's a boon ..I forgive people even if they do not ask for a sorry and move forward with my confidence ..I think one needs to either forget or vent out the thoughts on a regular basis for mental health .
Another point which I feel is important is that never over do anything ..I mean not at the cost of yourself . always do things for family/friends to the limit where you will not expect anything in return ..the moment you start making sacrifices you start expecting things and hurt yourself which is automatic as we are humans after all ..
A spiritual dependance helps a lot ..having faith in God and worship gives you a inner strength ..
Finally, I would say that one has to realise that ...Nothing and No one in this world is more important than self...life is precious...Once you start loving yourself , you will love the world and will be away from negativity !!

Being in this phase. I know it's so difficult to be vocal about this...coz everyone just starts judging...giving random advices... "Everything will be alright...u stay strong"... I was fed up by this sentence. The only solution is...a professional help... medicines too...if needed.
When we dont refrain in treating even a "pimple"...why do we question about treating our brain🤔

First hum sbke sath aisa time ata hai jab hum suicide krne ka sochte hai ,school , college after delivery.sbse jyada friends bnao ya koi aisa jisase aap sari batien share kr Sako.apne aap se pyar kre koi bhi situation ho aisa krne ki ham kabhi socha hi na.kabhi kabhi hamari society, hamari family bhi hame support krne ki jagah torture krti hai.hame sbse pahle Apne aap se pyar krna chahiye yhi life ka mantra hai.

Yes very few people in india know that depression is caused by the lack of a biochemical in our body. We all jump to conclusions and just judge. Also this is a genetic disease as well so one person in every extended family probably suffers from the same. We just dont talk about it.

Kavita Sahany such wonderful thoughts. M so bad at forgetting!

asha ma'am.... really?? Depression is genetic? Is anxiety too? Cz me n my dad share this same sort of anxiety if something goes wrong!!

Dunno about anxiety richa but depression is definitely genetic :(

I think being vocal about your feelings is a very important part of all this. Also if there should be absolutely no qualms in asking for help. We as a family or friend or acquaintance can always extend our love and support to our known ones. If we see any signs of depression let’s extend our hand even if the concerned person doesn’t ask for help. We all have been there and know how it feels: lonely, sad, dejected, not wanted!! We should be there for each other. Always!!

Many times most people gets depression in many things. But they dont realize it and kept it gng in frustration which leads to many issues. One should speak out for it nd discuss it with their family or friends and should find a way to come out of it. People's seek advice from concerned experts for illness like fever cold etc. But dnt seek advice or discuss anything about depression. Their should be some therepy for this or some professional advice to seek for it and come out of it

Its actually important to identify signs of depression In self and in any close person around you... Depression is treatable .. some therepaies work really well. Most important of all is take care of yourself and surroundings yourself with positive people avoid any kind of pressure from society which force u to be toxic people who.make you sad n harma your emotion. My self was victim of depression for long time ...buy by God Grace I am out of it...as i have got some blessed friends around me.

Lucky u aradhana sharma ! Stay blessed

Also...it can be a due to lack of vital vitamins in body like vit b12 , vit d etc...I remember; I use to get very low emotionally also..when I was detected with m extreme deficiency of b12 then...I came to know it's importance and started taking care of it...so yes our food lack of nutrients also triggers this

It's important to be aware and face this problem, society should keep open mind and help people get the needed help and support..talk to them be with them give them hope!!

I was suffering bad.. guess its all abt talking it out.. stigmatising it socially is really makin it worse for the person to approach others n talk it out.. ders one foundation in india TILL is really helpin ppl out
