question
2 month old has a slight yellow and clear discharge from one eye. his eye is NOT pink, or swollen, and he doesn't act agitated by it. i am more concerned about it than he seems to be. could she have scratched his eye and this is a defense mechanism of the body to fight infection? an allergy? is she too young for it to be a blocked tear duct? only 2 months old. i've been gently wiping with a warm water moistened cotton cloth. a clean cloth everytime of course. anyone else experience this with their baby?

Agreed Preetjyot. My daughter had same in her left eye and the pediatric ophthalmologist had same diagnosis I would recommend to get eye chk up done thro a pediatric ophthalmologist. Dr Mihir Kothari is listed in the BabyChakra services. I have found him to be approachable, very child friendly, polite and puts u and ur baby at ease. He practises at Thane and Wadala and some couple of other places in Mumbai You can Chk with him. Best wishes...

Since this is a new occurrence it cannot be attributed to an underdeveloped tear duct. Please have it checked by the doctor.

Hi Sandhya, What you mentioned is what my younger daughter also went through since her birth. I was explained by the doctor that this is a normal phenomenon for newborns.. It's basically related to treat duct which may take sometime to develop fully... All you need to do is keep wiping the eyes with luke warm water and clean cotton.. Do this specially before the baby sleeps... Also you can gently massage the edge of the beginning of the nose, right between the eyes, it helps in the development of the tear duct... After 2.5 months, my girl became absolutely fine...
