Anonymous Post: Be Supportive
I feel that my boss in office isnt happy after hearing about my pregnancy. At times he makes me feel out of place. He is taking away my work which right now I can do. How to react to this?

Dear anonymous, having worked as an HR in an organisation, I have seen this scenario in my organisation various times.. there was a lady who was almost in depression as she felt that the company is planning to sack her.. Her productivity started decreasing day by day, considering the organisation didn't give her much work, and she had a risky pregnancy about which she had informed us. We were worried for her as she had always been wonderful employee, but one day when the team leader assigned work to all the team members except her, she almost broke down and informed us that she doesn't want to continue. We talked to her and her team leader separately and came to the conclusion that the lady thought she was being ignored by the team, whereas the team leader had no clue about it. he said that he was just trying to help her considering the condition she was in and it would not be good if she would work for long hours.. also he felt it's better not to involve her in any new assignments as she was about to go for the maternity leave. No body wanted her to leave though. We made both of them sort out their differences and made them agree to some common terms and conditions. After that, everything was fine, she went for the leave and came back, was given flexi timing options and it was made sure that she was fine. she is still working with the organisation and things are much better now!! I suggest you to talk to the boss, it's possible that there is a misunderstanding between both of you, so it's better to talk and sort out the differences before taking any drastic step!!! All the best :)

Exactly Laxmi. I too agree with you. Dear friend, Sometimes male bosses may just get protective or concerned that the work should not cause unnecessary stress during peegnancy. On the other hand it might just be.... why give her work when she may want to go on leave after few months.... Saying this from personal experience. It can be either scenarios. While right now its all speculation as you "feel' about ur boss's behaviour, the best this is having an open conversation with him about 1. how far can u go with the projects in hand 2 when would u require additional support 3 need to take a step back.... rather than he guessing. Believe me, open conversations take the entire equation to a different level and its a good place to be in. All the best and happy motherhood

Talk to him specifically about how much you want to achieve before you proceed on your maternity leave. Male bosses think they are helping by doing this. It should help if he realizes you are still focussed on your performance etc.
