At two, they are beginning to want their opinion known, clearly. The "right way" depends on the child. Some children are very open to suggestion. They may have been just trying for your time and attention.Others, well, are beginning that long journey to be their own person,in their own way.Remember,as a parent, our primary thought is to keep them safe.Build from there.

Here I have been shared my thoughts.
1. Give options-Do you want the plush toy or car? This way appropriate decision is picked, but they still have options, control over the decision.
2. Plan-If you know your child naps 1-3pm.try not to get things down right before nap. If you know 6:30pm is tough time for them, try to be at home.
3. Set limits-If a child starts throwing a fit in the grocery store because they did not get their way, set clear limits.Only use the limit though if you can follow through. Consistency is key.
4. Time outs-Yes, the buzz word. Remember, time out is a minute per year.At 2 years old, 2 minutes is about right. It is a time to remove them from their frustration, the challenge. Time out should be out of view of what is causing them to be upset.

Another example, my son would not sit in the holiday picture without the toy in his hand.It did not go with the scene, but, ultimately, I wanted a happy child for the picture. When it was clear the toy would stay or there would be no smile, we tried without the toy. Great smile, and, now, a great story.

"Stubborn" children at age 2 may be more prone to acting out if their routine or situation is inconsistent.Keep to a schedule as much as possible. This gives reassurance and predictability to their life. They are just now becoming aware of their bodily functions, which is a bit overwhelming and upsetting for some children.Making the other parts of their life manageable helps reduce the "stubborn" moments.
It is a frustrating time right now.It passes. Remember, parents deserve a time out too.If it is getting too intense, keep them safe, but step away.Reach out for breaks if you can.
