No consequence mess making!
One of the tenets of good parenting is less punishment and more reasoning. It is usually hard to reason with a preschooler but if your temper is maintained then the kid will catch up and learn your rules. There will be few hits and misses but it will be effective in the long term .
Making messes is a part of growing up. There will crayon colouring on walls and paintings on the floors. There will be muddy footprints on your freshly swabbed floor annoying you to no end. Instead of shouting at them while you clean up after them, take the calm-kaam approach. Calmly call them and bring the mess to their attention. Hand them a sponge/cloth/broom (the kaam) to clean up the mess they have created. This approach instills the lesson that:
1. Their actions have consequences,

2. they are responsible for their messes and

3. that cleaning up is a part of life.

4. They will also love to clean up and make your burden lighter.

5. Shouting at them will just uselessly increase your blood pressure and the kids will probably be scared or just turn a deaf ear to you.

6. develops muscle memory of cleaning up

7. texture of sponges, scrubs and scourers helps in sensory stimulation and language development. While teaching them how to use those make sure you rub the material (eg. A scrub) on their hand to let them feel the sensation and vocalise it with the word such as rough or soft or wet etc

8. If siblings do it together, it educates them that everyone contributes to the household.

9. It's a great bonding activity for siblings to work together.

My kids cleaning up their scooter. They really enjoyed it and they offered to help themselves. My mil had told me to wash it as the kids had painted all over it. They themselves took it to the yard n started washing it. When I gave them a mop and scrubber they were so delighted to get trusted with a chore
