How to bathe the baby?
Bathing a baby is not rocket science, but as a new mother, it can be a daunting task. Like how to handle the baby? What if I hurt her or water went in her nose, so and so?
In this post, I am sharing how you can bath a baby without getting worried and confused.
Before your baby's umbilical cord stump falls off (between 10 days and three weeks after birth), it's best to sponge-bathe her to avoid getting the cord stump wet.
After that, you can bath the baby regularly, if the baby is pre-term or low weight consult the doctor once and accordingly do it.
Always keep the supplies ready -
You can purchase a baby bathtub with a seat (You can find it online) or you can line up your sink (If it is big enough) with a towel and bathe in that as well.
Tear-free shampoo and a body wash (go for lesser ingredients or all-natural one), your baby needs a very tiny amount, buy a small bottle is enough to start with and to check, if it suits her skin.
Soft muslin cloth or baby bath sponge.
Soft cotton hooded towel, to cover and dry.
Extra two cotton cloths to clean her face, hair, and ears.
Keep the clothes, moisturizing cream, and diaper ready for change.

How to bathe the baby:
• Gather all supplies
• Keep the hot water ready, make sure it is not too hot. Always check on your skin before using it on the baby.
• While you are getting the bucket filled up with water, give a gentle oil massage to baby. (I will do a post on baby oil massage soon)
• Once you are ready, with your baby head on your arm, your hand gripping her bottom, and the other hand holding the torso securely, gently slip your baby into the tub, feet first. Place her on the seat, always hold her with your left hand and use the right one to bath her.
• Use a small mug or glass to pour water, take a small amount at a time and always keep the baby head elevated.
• Make sure, the water does not enter her nose and mouth. So be very gentle and do it slowly.
• Use a very little amount of baby wash and shampoo as too much can make skin dry.
• Use muslin cloth or sponge to clean her face, neck and ears, don’t rub as this will irritate her skin. Always wash her face and head last, as she will cry. Rinse it with water.
• Once done, towel dry the baby and make sure you dry her properly. Keep the fan/ac off while doing this as the baby can catch a cold.
• Always make sure, you clean and dry her neck, behind ears, in between fingers, bum gaps and genital, all folds and armpits as well. This area accumulates sweat and can cause rashes.
• Apply a good moisturizer, all over the body and let it be for a minute, then you can dress her up. Swaddle her, feed her and let her take the beauty sleep.

Points to remember: -

• Do not leave your baby alone even for a second.
• Initially take help of someone.
• Always pour water in little amount and slowly.
• Keep the room warm.
• Do not bathe, if the baby is sick.
• Daily bathing is not necessary if the climate is cold.
• Do not bathe more than once a day, if baby gets dirty clean with the wet cloth.
• Keep bath time short.

Finally, don't be surprised if your baby cries during her first few baths. She's just reacting to an unfamiliar sensation. Keep the room temperature warm, the bathwater comfortable and soothe her by caressing and singing to her. She'll soon learn to love bath time.

Hope this helps all the new mothers out there, if you have any question do comments will be happy to reply. Till then Happy Parenting!! #bathethenewborn #notsoperfectmummy #newborncare
