Happy Janmashtami to everyone!!

Janamashtami is one of my favorite festivals, at my grandma’s place we used to celebrate it at home. Decorating the swing and dressing up the ladoo gopal was my favorite. Next day, going to watch the Dahi kala (Dahi Handi), it was so much fun.

We all grew up listening to stories of Krishna, how he defeated his cruel uncle Kansa and give freedom to people of Mathura. I was always fascinated with mythological stories, the drama and the whole concept of defeating evil are exciting.

When my brother was young, I used to tell him all these stories and now, it is my son turn.
I did not want to introduce Kansa, and evil demons stories to my son as he is too small to understand.
So, here I start my Kahna Kahani and also will explain why we celebrate Janamasthmi

Krishna was a son of mother Yashoda, they used to live in a beautiful village Gokul. Krishna was dark and has big beautiful eyes. Everyone calls him “Lalla”.

Janmashtami is the birthday celebration of Krishna like we celebrate our birthdays. On this day, we buy a new dress for him, give him a bath and dress him up, make his favorite sweets and white butter.

He loves to eat Makhan (white butter) and Milk because he knew that it not only tastes better but make you stronger and smarter. Also, he loves to play the flute (Bansuri), listening to his flute tunes everyone around used to dance. That’s why on Janamasthami, we dance that is called Ras Garba.

Lord Krishna loved eating butter. Everyone in the town was aware of his attempts to steal butter, that’s why he was called ‘Maakhan Chor’.
Krishna’s mother Yashoda would tie the butter high above the ground to hide it from Krishna. One day when mother Yashoda was not home, Krishna and his friends climbed one on top of the other and managed to reach the pot of butter. They all brought it down and finished it but they did not release that mother came back and saw them. All his friends ran back to their houses, but Krishna got punished for being naughty.
The moral is, no matter even If you are god, stealing is a bad habit and you will get punished for it.
I will like my son to be honest like Krishnaji, honest towards everything in life be it his work, relationships or country.
So, this is the way I introduced him to Krishna. I wanted to keep it simple, with a moral and as he doesn’t drink milk, hope this story encourages him.
Let me know in comments, how you like it.
Till then, Happy Parenting!!
