Even before Shaarav (Avi) was born my wife had decided on celebrating his birthday every month until his first year birthday. So we celebrated each month up to his first year by cutting a cake.

We did not celebrate his first year birthday lavishly and rather had a very simple affair. We just had the two families over for dinner at a good restaurant. Before that we had a cake cutting ceremony with self done home decor. We even went to the temple for offerings and made Shaarav plant 5 fruit trees. That's how we celebrated his first year - by making memories!
