Breast milk is one of the best foods for an infant but many times moms complain that they could not breast feed. Here are some quick tips to keep in mind in the first 48 hours post delivery to ensure a successful breast feeding relationship.

1. Do a nipple check during pregnancy. If your nipples are flat or inverted baby will find it difficult to maintain a deep latch. Your doctor or pregnancy coach can help with this.

2. Feed within the first hour after birth. Baby is very alert and very receptive to learning.

3. Make yourself and baby super comfortable, use pillows, work on your position and ensure that baby has a good wide open latch.

4. Remember your breasts are sensitive due to hormonal changes so a little discomfort is normal. It should not be pain but sensitivity is normal. This will soon resolve.

5. Feed the baby on a schedule for the first few days. Aim at 8-12 feeds per day. Awaken the baby if needed. This frequent Stimulation will help to establish your milk supply.
